Areas of Expertise
Garrity O’Crowley Counseling offers individual counseling for children, adolescents, and adults who are navigating a wide range of challenges. These include depression, anxiety, and difficulties with communication skills. I provide support for those who have experienced trauma, struggle with body image and eating disorders, or are dealing with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I also offer guidance for stress reduction, navigating grief and loss, and adapting to major life changes. Whether you’re working to improve self-esteem, manage self-harm, or build resilience, my counseling services are designed to help you find a path toward healing and personal growth.
Depression
Depression is a significant mood disorder and mental illness characterized by a persistent feeling of sadness, a loss of interest, and challenges in daily functioning. It extends beyond temporary sadness and necessitates professional treatment. Symptoms often include changes in sleep patterns, appetite, energy levels, concentration, and feelings of worthlessness. Common types of depression include Major Depressive Disorder, which involves symptoms lasting at least two weeks, and Persistent Depressive Disorder (dysthymia), a less severe but longer-lasting form. Garrity can provide valuable counseling for those struggling with depression, offering support and guidance toward recovery.
Anxiety
Anxiety is an emotion marked by feelings of tension, worried thoughts, and physical changes like a rapid heartbeat or increased heart rate. It is a normal response to stress that helps people prepare for potential threats. However, when these feelings become excessive, persistent, and interfere with daily life, they may indicate an anxiety disorder—a mental health condition that can be treated with psychotherapy, medication, and lifestyle changes. Garrity can assist in managing your anxiety issues, providing support and guidance to help you cope effectively.

Trauma
Traumatic stress refers to the emotional and psychological response to a distressing or life-threatening event, or series of events, that overwhelms a person’s ability to cope and shatters their sense of security. While many individuals experience temporary stress reactions following trauma, some endure symptoms that persist beyond a month, significantly affecting their daily lives, a condition known as PTSD. Garrity Counseling can help with Trauma and PTSD, providing support and guidance to those in need.
Comprehensive Support
Garrity Counseling offers comprehensive support for a wide range of challenges, including stress reduction, sexual abuse, grief and loss, major life changes, self-esteem, and self-harm. Whether you're dealing with the emotional aftermath of significant life transitions or seeking to improve your self-esteem, Garrity Counseling is equipped to help. Their compassionate approach ensures that individuals facing issues like sexual abuse or struggling with self-harm receive the care and understanding they need to heal and grow.
Eating Disorders
Eating disorders are serious mental health conditions that affect a person’s relationship with food, body image, and self-worth. They often involve extreme emotions, attitudes, and behaviors surrounding eating and weight, such as restrictive dieting, binge eating, or purging. Common types include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge-eating disorder. These conditions can have severe physical and emotional consequences, but with early intervention and support, recovery is possible. Treatment often includes therapy, medical care, nutritional counseling, and compassionate support from loved ones to help individuals rebuild a healthy relationship with food and their body.
Body Image
Body image plays a powerful role in mental health, influencing how people see themselves and feel about their bodies. When someone struggles with negative body image, it can lead to low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and unhealthy habits. On the other hand, developing a positive body image—accepting and appreciating one’s body for its strength, function, and uniqueness—supports confidence, emotional balance, and overall well-being. Building body positivity often involves practicing self-compassion, limiting social comparison, and focusing on health and happiness rather than appearance.
